Treatment of Styes (Chalazia)
Styes appear as red hard lumps in the eye lids. They often look and feel quite painful and up to now treatment has been restricted to warm compresses, or surgery.
We are pleased to announce that we have launched the first and only Stye Clinic in the UK and now can offer a painless alternative, which has been scientifically proven to be 80% effective in eradicating the symptoms and dispersing the swelling, which is caused by a blockage within meibomian glands in the eyelid.
Research has shown (link to the scientific paper) that a treatment already used for dry eyes [link to Intense Pulse Light page], which can also be caused by issues with the meibomian glands, is effective in treating styes that are not responding to conventional warm compress treatment. The treatment called Intense pulsed light and low-level light therapy is pain-free and is administered to the upper face (cheeks and over closed lids). Sessions last 30 minutes and between 1 and 4 treatments may be required.
If you suffer from styes on your lids which don’t easily resolve we can help.
