Introducing MiSight
MiSight are scientifically proven soft daily contact lenses that can not only correct Myopia in children, but can treat short sight by slowing down the progression.
It is important that we try and catch Myopia as early as possible and MiSight lenses are designed especially for children aged 6 plus. Research shows that if either parent is short-sighted, there is a clear genetic possibility that their child may be also. If both parents are short sighted, the risk is even greater. The earlier it is caught, the better the chance of preventing short sightedness from progressing.
Although there is currently no cure for myopia, we are able to fit your child with contact lenses that may slow down the progression of Myopia. Our eye care practitioners have extensive experience in myopia management and can advise suitable treatment tailored specifically for your child.
Performing as well as EyeDream (overnight lens correction), MiSight lenses are extremely convenient, as daily throw-aways there’s no cleaning, disinfection or worrying about lost lenses.
The first signs of Myopia in children may include:
- Squinting/screwing up the eyes
- Sitting too close to the TV
- Complaining they cannot see the board in school
- Holding books too close to their face
- Parents may notice that if they point to something in the distance, their child cannot see it.
As soon as any of these signs are noticed, it is vital that your child see’s an optician.
Why control Myopia progression?
Contact Lenses Designed for Children
MiSight® 1 day is a daily disposable contact lens designed for children so they can get the dual benefit of clear, spectacle-free vision and the possibility of slowing down prescription changes by 59% on average.
We now offer the Brilliant Futures™ Myopia Management Programme from CooperVision which includes the proven MiSight® 1 day contact lenses providing you with information, support and regular assessment. The programme is specially designed to maximise the success of slowing down your child’s short-sightedness.
Children as young as 8 can successfully wear contact lenses and tell us they:
- Feel more competent when taking part in sport and other physical activities
- Feel better about their appearance
- Feel better about fitting in with their friends.
- If caught early and preventative measures such as EyeDream or MiSight are used, the results could mean a lower prescription, giving better vision when not wearing glasses or contact lenses.
- For children who would go on to develop high levels of myopia (for example -6.00D or more) a reduction in progression of myopia could mean not only a lower prescription, giving better vision when not wearing glasses, or contact lenses, but also a lower incidence of eye diseases associated with high myopia, such as retinal detachment or glaucoma in later life.
Earlam and Christopher were one of the first practices in the whole country to be involved in prescribing MiSight.
