Taunton Optometrist, Sarah Farrant, represents the United Kingdom in Rome
The Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) is a world leader in eye health education and has Ambassadors all over the world. These Ambassadors meet regularly to share best practice, advance research and promote literacy and educational aspects relating to the tear film and ocular surface.
This research has been stimulated by the knowledge that alteration or deficiency of the tear film, which occurs in countless individuals throughout the world, may lead to serious problems and possibly even blindness.
UK’s Ambassador is our own Sarah Farrant of Earlam and Christopher in Taunton.
Mrs Farrant has recently returned from Rome where she represented the United Kingdom in this impressive forum at their latest conference presenting on the unmet needs for management (eg diagnosis and treatment) of ocular surface diseases in the UK, as well as the perceived short and long term scientific/clinical solutions.
She very much sees her role as that of:
Raising awareness of dry eye disease diagnosis and effective management, as well as developing ideas for research and education. These are some of the key goals for the society moving forward in the UK and around the world.
Mrs Farrant has been the UK Ambassador for TFOS since 2017 and is considered a leading expert in this area. When she is not busy helping patients who suffer from dry eye manage, she regularly lectures and speaks on the subject sharing her extensive knowledge in this area.
Dry Eye Disease affects millions of people throughout the world and is one of the more common reason patients seek eye care.
